Ridge is an old childhood friend of Tara, Rue and Cassie.  He has always been an effeminate person, something that got him picked on by many people, including his friend Tara.  Unfortunately, this caused some physical fights between the two of them, with Tara always the victor.  Ridge took his knocks in stride and grew a secret fondness for her strength and beauty, a feeling that grew stronger after the two grew out of their fighting phase.  Ridge always had a yearning to toughen himself up, so right out of High School he decided to join the military.  Five years later, Ridge is out with a full paid college scholarship in tow.  However he is not attending college in the town of Grover Hills.  Ridge may be quite strong physically, but Tara is the one thing that could turn him into a lightweight 10 year old again.
